Mike Reilly in front of Engine 75Michael started his career in the fireservice in his hometown of Ramsey, New Jersey. At the age of sixteen he joined the Ramsey Rescue Squad. After High School Michael joined the Marine Corps and served a tour in Iraq as a member of MWSS 472, working as an air rescue firefighter. Upon his return, Michael continued his career with the Stratford, Connecticut Fire Department where he honed his skills as a young firefighter. Eventually, Mike realized his dream of joining the F.D.N.Y. A leader by nature, he was appointed as a squad leader in the fire academy. This position gave him his choice of assignment upon completion of probationary school. Michael chose to join the members of the busiest company in the city, Engine 75. The members of the firehouse took an immediate liking to Mike. He was an excellent probie. He did everything he was asked to do and more, and always with a smile on his face.

On August 27, 2006 Engine 75 responded to a store fire in the Bronx. Mike entered the building with three other members of the engine and covering lieutenant, Howie Carpluk of Engine 42. During the operation the floor collapsed beneath them, plunging them into the basement. Firefighter Michael C. Reilly and Lt. Carpluk were buried beneath the debris. Both men made The Supreme Sacrifice. Michael had only been on the job a few short weeks. At the age of 25, his life of service was short but full. He touched the lives of all that knew him and he is sorely missed by his family and friends.
